6th July - There’s a new beer festival for Wigan and it’s going to be reet good!

The Reet Good Beer Festival will take place on Mesnes Field in the heart of Wigan Town Centre from September 17 – 20th.

The event will feature beers from breweries across Wigan Borough, the north west and beyond.

Wigan’s five main brewers Prospect, All Gates, Martland, Hophurst and Problem Child have already pledged their support, and new beers from across the UK are being added to the line-up each day.

There’ll also be music including everything from Soul and Motown to Britpop and acoustic guitar to Wigan legends Chonkinfeckle.

All proceeds will go towards Wigan Youth Zone so they can continue to raise the aspirations of the borough’s young people.

Spencer Parry, festival organiser and WYZ Fundraising and Events Manager, said: “We run a lot of events to raise the £1.6 million required to run Wigan Youth Zone each year.

“The Reet Good Beer Festival will give the average man who can’t donate hundreds of pounds to us the chance to support us and give something back to the town simply by buying a ticket and popping down for a few drinks.

“It’s going to be such a great weekend and we’re announcing new beers all the time. We’re so excited to be putting on Wigan’s newest beer festival and I can promise it really is going to be reet good.”

The beer festival will take place in a marquee erected on a large fenced area on Mesnes Field, the green space across the road from Wigan Indoor Market.

The event will not affect the activity at Wigan Youth Zone and will be run as an entirely independent event, and security and extra policing will be on site to keep town centre disruption to a minimum.

Volunteers will not only help run the beer festival but will help with a post event clean up to ensure Mesnes Field is left exactly as it was found.

Tickets will start from just £3 rising to £7 for the busier sessions and will be available online or on the door (until the 500 person capacity is reached). Food and drink packages are also available as well as barrel sponsorship and corporate packages.
